The Sketchbook

This is how it all started…

Growing up, I was always engrossed in art and animation. Simply from watching Cartoons on Television, I was taken aback to how these two-dimensional pixels could come together and invoke a certain emotional resonance with the viewer. I wanted to be able to replicate this, and I began drawing all over the place, whether it be in a notebook or the back of my homework.

Drawing and animating was my calling for expression, and I honed this skill meticulously by drawing whenever I could, and trying out new techniques and forms of media to bring variety within my art: from watercolor, acrylic paint, alcohol markers, or even a simple pen. My drawing didn’t have any motives or external rewards behind it as I expressed for nobody but myself. I felt compelled to draw simply through intrinsic motivation and I was proud that I could call it a passion rather than a hobby.

When I entered community college, my passion for art took a backseat in my priorities, as I was spending most of my time working on academics. Eventually I was introduced to website design and development. I saw this as a new way to express my creativity and took this on as a new challenge, being a  foreign medium of expression to me.

I developed a website to encompass my love of art and expression, containing my various drawings over the years, spanning back to my childhood, allowing people to not only view my growth as an artist, but also how I’ve developed as a person throughout the years.

By creating art, a form of introspection, I have learned a lot about myself and it is evident by the way my art has developed as I grew. I recognize that art and expression is vital to my personality and influences the way I handle obstacles, pertaining to my growth as a person.
